The Saintes archipelago is also a dependency of Guadeloupe. The bay is renowned as being tremendously beautiful.
Terre de Haut the main island is surrounded by islets and Terre de Bas the only other inhabited island. In these very dry places, you can see iguanas basking in the sunshine.
With fewer tourists, Terre de Bas is calm and authentic with interesting local flora, the nice fishing port of Petite Anse and the beach of Grande Anse.
Most inhabitants are of Britton or Norman lineage and mostly white as opposed to the mainly afro-caribbean population of Guadeloupe. It is not unusual to be able to admire the traditional guadeloupean sail boats in the bay as the Saintois are lots to practice this sport. Discovered in November by Christopher Columbus, the name of the Saintes comes from all saints day.
The “Anse of the Pain de Sucre” is a pleasant creek where it is nice to bath in the sunshine. Divers will enjoy its waters full of colored fauna and flora. The archipelago of the Saintes provides many moorings such as Anse du Bourg inf front of Terre de Haut which is ideal for shopping and sightseeing, Ilet Cabri which is beautiful but unsafe because of its unsteady winds. Those who enjoy quietness will make way to Anse Fideling in Terre de Bas. In nice weather only, you can anchor for the day behind “Grand Ilet” where you can dive pleasantly.
